Zusammenfassung
Not only was John Wooden a great basketball coach, he was a master teacher. In fact, he was a great coach because he was a master teacher. What Wooden has learned from others in the classroom and perfected on the practice court are fundamental principles of effective teaching. This book conveys these principles.

Co-author Swen Nater, one of John Wooden's former basketball players at UCLA, provides insightful first-hand accounts on the many life lessons he learned from Wooden that has applied to his life since becoming a teacher himself. Wooden's principles, conveyed by Nater and co-author Ronald Gallimore in this book, can be studied and applied by teachers, coaches, parents and anyone else who is responsible for, works with, or supervises others. In this revised version of the book, the authors include an afterword, in which specific examples and anecdotes are provided of how You Haven't Taught Until They Have Learned has impacted people in the teaching, coaching, and business industries.

Swen Nater has a truly remarkable story. No one has done what he did. He never played high school basketball (cut from tryouts) and sat the bench behind Bill Walton at UCLA. Yet, he was the 16th overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft. Swen chose the ABA first; he was not satisfied with simply being drafted. He led the ABA in rebounds and was a two-time All-Star. When he joined the NBA, he led that league in rebounds and in one game grabbed (scored) 18 defensive rebounds in the first half, currently an NBA record. Swen Nater is a member of the prestigious 30/30 club for 30 or more rebounds and points in a single game. He is currently in 24 (9th) place in the NBA record books for field-goal percentage and 6th in rebounds per minute played. Swen discovered his passion for teaching and learning at UCLA while watching a great teacher, John Wooden. He joined Ron Gallimore to write the book You Haven't Taught Until They Have Learned, which is a study of Wooden's teaching methods. His other books are: John Wooden's UCLA Offense, Playing Big with Pete Newell, The Fundamentals of Rebounding, and A Reason for the Rhyme, his own poetry. Swen Nater earned his bachelor's degree at UCLA and San Diego Christian College. He is currently a buyer at Costco Wholesale in the Seattle area, holds basketball clinics around the world, and is a sought-after motivational speaker.Ronald Gallimore, PhD is Chief Scientist for LessonLab Research Institute and Distinguished Professor Emeritus at UCLA. He earned his BA from the University of Arizona and his PhD from Northwestern University. He taught psychology at California State University, Long Beach, and the University of Hawaii before joining the psychiatry faculty at UCLA in 1971. In 1966, he was appointed Research Psychologist at Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum to co-direct a five-year field study in a native Hawaiian community. In 1970, he and Roland Tharp designed a laboratory school (Kamehameha Elementary Education Project), which they co-directed for 10 years. For this work and their book Rousing Minds to Life, he and Tharp were presented the 1993 Grawemeyer Award in Education. In collaboration with Leslie Reese, Claude Goldenberg, and Estela Zarate, Ronald directed a 17-year study of immigrant Latino students and their families. He has collaborated with Goldenberg and Saunders on longitudinal studies of school and teaching improvement from 1985 to present. In 1992, he received a University of California Presidential Award for research contributing to the improvement of public schools. In 1993, the International Reading Association presented he and Goldenberg the Albert J. Harris Award. In 1998, he and Jim Stigler founded LessonLab, which is devoted to the improvement of teaching through research and direct action in schools. Ronald co-directed the 1999 TIMSS Video Study and currently oversees research conducted at LessonLab. He has published five research monographs and more than 120 scholarly and scientific papers. Ronald and Sharon Gallimore were married in 1963, and have lived in Santa Monica since 1973. They have two daughters, Christine and Andrea, and two grandchildren, Julien and Cate.
