A shooting expedition up the Mareb and the Tackazze in the 1870s, when almost nothing was known in England about the Abyssinian interior. Mayo was an Irish peer's son who went for the game and came back with the geography. This edition adds 59 bound plates after Bierstadt, Bonheur, Church and Petter, alongside four restored and coloured illustrations.
