I have a lot to say. Sometimes, getting the words out is the hard part.
Living with speech apraxia means my brain knows the words I want to say, but getting my mouth to make the movements needed to say them can take a lot of work.
In My Voice is Inside Me, I share my own journey - the frustration of not always being understood, the hard work and repetition of speech therapy, and the different ways I can communicate when my words just won't come.
Along the way, I remind you how important it is to be patient, to listen, and to never underestimate someone simply because they communicate differently.
With a family that advocates for me, teachers and therapists who continue to believe in me, and a whole lot of determination, I keep working toward finding my voice.
My words may take a little longer, but I have so much to say. Every voice matters. Every voice deserves to be heard.
