What remains of a human being when the image changes?
MASKH begins with the Qur'anic account of transformation and follows its implications into a deeper question: if the body changes radically, what makes the human being remain the same human being?
Moving between the Qur'an, the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt, and contemporary scientific research, the book examines maskh, tinah, bodily identity, re-creation, fitrah, shakilah, barzakh, and Rajʿah. It explores how bodies preserve form, how living systems rebuild themselves, what modern biology can?and cannot?tell us about transformation, and where the boundary lies between scientific explanation and religious meaning.
The book does not reduce revelation to biology, nor does it use science to "prove" the miraculous. Instead, it asks what each field can legitimately establish while preserving the distinction between transmitted text, interpretation, scientific evidence, and analytical possibility.
At the center of the book stands one question: if the human image can change while human identity remains, where does the human being truly reside?
