This work presents a short life of the Venerable Bede, written by Turgot, Prior of Durham, supplemented by Bede's own autobiographical note. It recounts Bede's birth in 677 in Northumbria, his dedication at age seven to the twin monasteries of Wearmouth and Jarrow under Abbots Benedict and Ceolfrid, and his thorough education in both sacred and secular learning, including Latin, Greek, and the liberal arts. It emphasizes his lifelong stability in the monastery, his work as scholar, teacher, and writer, his ordination as deacon and priest, and his death in 734 at age fifty-nine, after producing numerous scriptural commentaries for the Church.
