My early years were spent enthralled by children's books on nature, travel, and adventure stories. Childhood summers seemed to be endlessly warm and sunny, and I was outdoors whenever possible, exploring the Surrey Hills, and riding my friend's ponies, and donkey. I have always enjoyed writing: At first, mainly for my own entertainment, and for family and friends.Over the years, I have written countless short stories, articles, blank and rhyming verse, advertising slogans etc. for competitions: Sometimes accompanied by my own watercolour illustrations, and cartoon artwork. Winning a prize was always an added bonus. My passion for the natural world was further inspired by reading the works of Gerald Durrell, Gavin Maxwell, Derek Tangye and other heroes from my youth. These writers' descriptive prowess held me spellbound. I also loved the gentle, irrepressible humour, which Gerald Durrell, used so well; together with his wonderful portrayal of family relationships. My Family and Other Animals remains an all-time favourite. Sadly, during the 90s, I became seriously ill with chronic M.E. I was forced to give up work, and return home, where for some years, I became bedbound. Any recovery has been painfully slow. Writing in bed, whenever strong enough, became an essential creative outlet, and I relished the mental freedom it gave me, whilst I was so severely incapacitated. I began with poetry and short autobiographical articles for The Cat Magazine. Then I wrote my trilogy of Laura's Psychic Adventure novels for children: Drawing upon recollections of idyllic childhood holidays in Dorset, Cornwall, and the Scottish Highlands, for Laura's Secret, Wreckers Point and The Mull of Kildoon. In addition to Katanja's Comet, I have completed four further books. Life with ME has enforced countless house moves which can precipitate chronic exhaustion, and lengthy relapses.
