In this time of great tension between the harsh Communist East and the
Western World , 1961,the coldest time of the Cold War, a young Jewish
woman emigrates from Communist Romania to "free" Paris, the culture
capital of Europe .She has been threatened and persecuted in Romania
and she is happy to fly to Paris, the city of her dreams. But her sense of
danger and insecurity follows her to the West and places her in a precarious
situation: she has been stripped of her citizenship, she is stateless, she has
no passport, no money, and is not permitted to work. She is in danger of
deportation. In addition this is the time when the building of the Berlin
Wall begins. Informed people speak about mobilization of the Armed
Forces and a possible World War III.
In spite of this, the heroine's passionate love for Paris, for its beauty and
freedom makes this trip deeply meaningful.
