Makobela Maimela is a brewer of traditional beer who belongs to the Nothern Sotho Balobedu nation ruled over by Modjadji, the Rain Queen. This hard-working koko from Merekome village in Limpopo has forged a sustainable livelihood and educated her family thanks to the making and selling of sorghum beer, but she is also known for crafting intricate beadwork ensembles for ceremonial occasions. Furthermore, over weekends she heads out to perform with her beloved dinaka dance troupe. Mme Makobela's culture is inseparable from her business, family and social life - she truly lives the Balobedu way.
