A pungent cocktail of choppy romance, corporate larceny and the thrills and spills of sailboat racing, Windward Legs is the rousing and captivating story of a woman's journey to rediscover who she is.
Fast and risky action, both on and off the water, is what keeps Alice going. After a bad marriage breakup, sailboat racing and men have become her prime distractions. The sailing is going well, the other, not so much.
Windward Legs chronicles Alice's exploits and her struggles, hair raising at times, to get her life back on an even keel. If that wasn't enough, she has to survive the theft of a ground-breaking software product she's invented in secret at DataStar, the startup run by her odious brother-in-law. Alice is aided, and sometimes impeded, by the assorted female crew members of the yacht she races on. The deeper story is about a woman finding within herself the strength and guts to move forward.
The title of the story is a play on words. Alice's standout feature is her legs, which, in her imagination, have a voice of their own and deliver wise advice and the occasional snarky comment. In sailboat racing, the windward leg of the race faces into the wind; it's the most difficult part and is always sailed first.
