Thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL, also known as thermoluminescence) is a process in which a material emits light while being heated following excitation. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) is an analogous process in which a material emits light while being subject to optical stimulation. This research text will cover the state-of-the-art theory and applications in thermally and optically stimulated luminescence (TSL and OSL) following irradiation by ionizing radiation. The topics covered are interdisciplinary, spanning areas of materials science, condensed matter physics and radiation physics through the eyes of luminescence phenomena.
