Nancy Fournier Jensen (aka Nana Banana) graduated from The Institute of Children's Literature in January of 1987. Her love of orangutans inspired the character Lulu. This story was regularly told to her five children at bedtime and was even recorded on cassette tape so they could listen to it when she was away.
