Antoine Borrut, Ph.D. (2007) in Islamic history, Université de Paris I-La Sorbonne, is Assistant Professor of Middle East History in the Department of History at the University of Maryland. He is the author of Entre mémoire et pouvoir: l'espace syrien sous les derniers Omeyyades et les premiers Abbassides (v. 72-193/692-809) (Leiden: Brill, 2010) and several articles dealing with early Islamic history and historiography. Paul M. Cobb, Ph.D. (1997) in Islamic history, University of Chicago, is Associate Professor of Islamic History in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of, among other works, White Banners: Contention in Abbasid Syria, 750-880 (Albany: State University of New York Press, 2001).
