The Victorian missionary David Livingstone (1813-1873) led an expedition up the Zambezi River in 1858-1864. However, owing to disagreements within the party, illness and deaths, drought and tribal warfare, the explorers achieved few of their aims. This 1865 account was based on the journals of Livingstone's brother Charles.
